My goal is to keep this blog edifying and informative….however I couldn’t pass up this story.  Greatest arrest story ever…

Updated:  Mr. Cruz will not be charged with battery for the gas incident as discussed here.  He must be….um…..relieved.

Tuesdays with Dr. King

September 23, 2008

I came across this video this morning on Kuo and Joe’s blog:

I really enjoyed John Legend’s version of U2’s Pride (In the Name of Love) and after watching found myself perusing youtube looking for Mr. Luther King Jr. speeches.  Needless to say, I was deeply moved watching him speak (preach).  Here are a few of the words that came to my mind as I listened to him:

Charismatic
Uncompromising
Unflinching
Bold
Courageous
Prophetic
Strong
Passionate

I pray that I may preach the Gospel with that same fire, same conviction, same boldness.  I would encourage you to carve out some time and listen….I promise you will be moved.

It’s been an eventful last couple of weeks for Catrina and I.  As we faced a busy fall season complete with babies being born, new job responsibilities at work, and youth ministry kicking off yet again, we headed out of town for 9 days or so on our last vacation before baby Grace appears.   The vacation got off to an interesting start…we were leaving on a Thursday morning and the night before, we had a Youth Leader meeting that could be classified as a bit intense.  It was good for us to be challenged and to have to answer some difficult questions.  I’m so proud and blessed to have the team of leaders to serve with and am glad that we had to wrestle through the things that we did….however it was not easy and made the notion of getting away for a time even more appealing.

First stop on our vacation was Plains, Montana for a couple days with the In-Laws at the river property.   The trip took about 7 hours by truck, so we drugged up the dogs (so Chewy wouldn’t puke), loaded up the laptop with sermons, and headed out.  We spent 3 days in Plains with Catrina’s family (parents Bill and Jennifer, brother David and wife Lauren and baby Tristan) and 5 dogs…all living in a big 5th wheel.  It was an adventure for sure….but a lot of fun.  Did a lot of fishing, eating, and just hanging out.  Here are some pictures:

After Montana, we headed off to Lake Chelan, where we spent the last 5 days of our vacation…just the two of us hanging out and relaxing…reading…swimming….sleeping…our favorite kind of vacation.  Upon our return, life resumed it’s relatively frenetic pace.  I spent three days in a leadership class for work, we kicked off youth group, and spent a day or so organizing my new cubicle at work (much bigger than my last cubicle…but alas, still a cubicle).  The folks in the office blessed us by throwing a baby shower for Catrina and I and a couple other couples who are having babies in the next few weeks.

Here are a number of pictures from the baby shower:

God has blessed us with a good job, good people to work with, and great family to enjoy vacation with.  I can’t wait until the next one.

On Vacation Again…

No blog posts this last week as Catrina and I have been on vacation again.  Hopefully my semi-regular blogs will resume next week…

Remembering Roby

September 3, 2008

A couple of years ago, my best friend Ryan and I went to this thing called the Christian Musician Summit.  It was in it’s first year and quite an intimate little gathering….it’s since grown into quite a large get together.  One of the guitar workshops we went to (alternate tuning techniques) was led by a guy named Roby Duke.  Great musician with a great sound and love for Christ that was easily seen…and heard.  Roby passed away last year, and every now and then I find myself perusing youtube looking for some of his music.  Today was one of those mornings and instead of keeping them all to myself, I decided to post a couple for all to enjoy:

Amazing Grace:

Right On Time:

One Embrace:

Enjoy…
