Vacation and Coming Home
August 8, 2008
It’s been a busy couple of weeks since Catrina and I got back from our vacation in Chelan. This blog post was supposed to be posted shortly after we got back, but I just kept putting it off….plus we’ve been extremely busy. For example, we’ve got to go to our 3rd wedding in three weeks tomorrow. Tis the season.
I had an interview for a promotion in our office last week and found earlier this week that I got it, which is great! My work won’t change much, but the increase in pay is certainly nice, especially with baby Grace on the way. What a blessing this job has been…I need to remember that when I want to beat my head against the cubicle wall. We’ve also been working like crazy to get the baby room ready, so I’ve spent most evenings painting. Once that room is done, it’s on to the kitchen.
Here is a list of awards from our week on the Lake…
The award for longest period of time between a vacation and a blog post about that vacation: My blog – 13 days
The award for being the last restaurant that doesn’t take my debit card: Kofy’s in Waterville. Apparently “Joni only takes cash or check”.
The award for the nice couple who luckily had extra cash to pay for our meal at the restaurant who wouldn’t take my debit card: Thanks Dick and Jan!
The Peach Eating Contest award: We bought a box of peaches at the beginning of the vacation (42 in all). We finished the last one the day we left. Final Tally: Catrina – 8, Paul – 34. I win…
The Best Mexican Food award: The Taco Truck in the parking lot of the Manson Red Apple. The Super Burrito is fabulous!
The most helpful unwanted guest at the park: The 4 foot long bull snake that roams the bank and shoreline that we’ve affectionately named Dirty Harry. He keeps the mice at bay, as well as any other young snakes that may try and take up residence. Catrina, who REALLY doesn’t like the devil creature, handled her first meeting very well. That reminds me…
The award for conquering your fears while on vacation: Catrina, who not only didn’t freak out when I told her that the snake was behind her by the tree (in front of others no less), but actually walked toward the snake to get a better look as he slithered away. I’m proud of you baby!
The award for the worst part of the vacation: Having the truck automatically downshift to 1st gear 15 miles outside of Cle Elum with no cellphone coverage…and not shift out of first gear no matter what I tried to.
The award for the best mechanic in Cle Elum: Reliable Auto Service. Nothing worse than car problems 2 hours from home. They were friendly, helpful, and only charged us $25 to fix the electrical problem we were having with the truck. It wasn’t the alternator like the other shop down the road told us…we just needed a new battery terminal connector. Thanks Mike!
And finally, my favorite…The award for ‘name-dropping a former Seattle Seahawks field goal kicker’: The bar owner who once had Josh Brown visit his bar was narrowly edged out by the bar patron who once painted Norm Johnson’s neighbor’s house. Can’t top that!
